Interview With DJ BL3ND Before His Show At New City Gas
Followed by more then 4.3 million fans, I got the amazing opportunity to interview DJ BL3ND, a legend I’ve followed since I was a little girl. DJ BL3ND has had great success starting from a young age and continues to blow up the charts.

At the age of 12, I enjoyed the groovy vibes of house music. Later on in my teens I discovered progressive House Music. In 2009. I remember you starting off in a small room which was considered your studio. You had not started producing electronic music yet, you were only remixing songs together. When you posted your first track on youtube, it hit over a million views and downloads instantly. After your first release of “Club Mix” I assume this is what encouraged you to keep going. How does it feel starting off in a small room, now playing the biggest music festivals in the world?
Dj BL3ND :
To be where I am today is unbelievable. My fans who are now ‘Blenders’ enjoyed what I did even when I wasn’t famous, they spread the word around which eventually got all over the world. Thanks to my fans, I’m playing at the biggest music festivals in the world. At first when different people were approaching me to play at clubs around the world it was very shocking. Looking back, I never thought I would be this big! Initially I was suppose to have a different job because DJ’ing was only a hobby of mine. Looking where I am today, DJ’ing has taken over my life.
TAYLOR: 2)
At a young age you discovered your passion and love for music. What is the best advice for our generation you can offer considering everybody wants to become a successful DJ.
DJ BL3ND :
Do it for the love of music and be passionate with what you have. The more practice you get, the better you will become. Everything is about trial and error, either you work with your mistakes or you don’t. Being motivated to work hard is key when it comes to producing and making your own music. What I advise to our youth is to never give up, if you are so passionate about becoming a DJ/Producer you will work extremely hard to get where you want to be.

Your New song #GoingDown has been a great success with the amount of views and plays it got. Can you explain the creative background while producing this song with Minero?
DJ BL3ND:
The song #GoingDown is very energetic with a hype beat of dutch house. The melody is very different from what you normally hear in all EDM songs. All the songs I produce I try to make them very energetic and as powerful as possible.
TAYLOR: 4)
Since April you have been touring all across the world, what has been your favorite music festivals and clubs so far? What’s the different atmosphere between playing for over 20,000 people compared to 1,000 at a club.
DJ BL3ND :
Around the world every show and every festival I go to always has something different. For example, at a smaller club you get more interaction with your fans as opposed to a festival, the crowd is so separated because of the whole production. Music festivals in general are always something to experience. The amount of people and the amount of energy is insane.
TAYLOR: 5)
Growing up as a teenager, what types of music did you listen to? How did your love for House expand this much?
Dj BL3ND:
I had a very big variety of music I used listened to. From Rock, Rap, Mexican Music, Country music to House, I listened to it all. I feel in love with Electronic Music because of how much energy it had compared to all the other music I’d heard. This electronic energy is what I live for and this is the energy our generation is adapting to. My fans love all the jumping, all the raving all the craziness this music gives off.
TAYLOR: 6)
Can we expect any new remixes or collaborations with other DJ’s?
Dj BL3ND :
I have a lot of collaborations and a lot of new music videos coming out in the next month. I’ve been very busy touring all over the USA and Canada, so its very hard to keep up while producing new music. I’m definitely going to surprise my fans with some of the best new music BL3NDS has to offer.
TAYLOR: 7)
Is this your first time in Montreal, Quebec? What is some of the feedback you’ve heard about New City Gas and Montreal itself? What do you expect the show to be like?
DJ BL3ND:
Montreal has always been a city I’ve been dying to visit, I’m so glad to be here. Montreal is known to have a big fan base of “BL3NDS”. It sucks that I was never in Montreal before. I can’t wait to play my first show at New City Gas. Tonight is going to be the first kick off of my Canadian tour, I’m so excited to be partying with you guys.

Many of your fans ask why you wear a different mask during every show? Can you explain the reasoning behind this?
Dj BL3ND:
Wearing a mask to every show is always different and cool. I decided to wear a mask for no reason, the idea just came to me, I thought it would be hype. Every so often I like to change my masks and get them made in different ways. Its like a hair cut, your always trying different styles. Behind the mask isn’t DJ BL3ND, only when wearing the mask i am the real DJ. The name DJ Bl3nd came up because I blend music together.
