“Five-Bite” Gourmet Tapas Poutines At The Brand New Poutineville In Toronto
Poutineville, a Montreal based restaurant dedicated to serving a multitude of different style poutines, is now expanding to Toronto.
The Toronto location, opening at the end of July in the Annex neighbourhood of downtown Toronto, will be slightly different says co-owner Kosta Kariotakis. They are creating a more upscale version of their Montreal restaurant, with wine pairings, all-you-can-eat poutine “tapas” and even flambéed fries.
Kariotakis said the all-you-can eat tapas-style poutine will be “five-bite” plate versions of various custom dishes on the menu. “They can order as many as they want and keep ordering until they blow up.”
AND they will be taking reservations!
The restaurant will seat 100 customers – 50 of which will be on a outdoor terrace. The dark hardwood floors, faux-leather banquettes and a large chandelier hardly scream “fast food.”
He explains the vibe he’s going for to be more of a steakhouse than a potato palace, and he’ll be going after the lunch and dinner crowd, then take on a more “King West” lounge ambience in the late hours.
“There are a lot of poutine places in Toronto. I’m not like them. We are introducing something that’s a little bit different,” said Kariotakis.
“Toronto is amazing, a lot of food bloggers everywhere, and it’s become a food town,” he added. “I want that market.
The Toronto location, has plans to offer high-end toppings like foie gras, duck, grilled lamb chops, slow-cooked braised beef and lobster. Prices will vary, depending on the toppings, but a basic poutine is $7 and Kariotakis estimates the lamb-chop poutine will cost about $21.
