10 Highlights To Help Relive Ilesoniq’s Second Year
Over Just A Month Ago, 45,000 Happy Festival Goers Streamed Into Parc Jean Drapeau For IleSoniq.
The second annual session of IleSoniq did incredibly well boosting the events brand name and respectability in the industry.
With over 50 diverse and international musicians brought in to play, there is no denying the well crafted lineup. The festival hosted everyone from Above & Beyond, Kaskade, Deadmau5, Keisza, Snails, and many more.
Now that the summer festival season is completely over, Canadanightlife is bringing you back to those unforgettable two days, which made IleSoniq stick out so significantly.
Whether you were there or just wish to go next time, check out our list of ten moments that made this year so special.
1. Deadmau5’s New Mau5trap Stage Design
The legendary Toronto resident and internet enthusiast greeted Montreal with a warm welcome during the first day. His brand new stage has taken a lengthy period of time to design, but certainly delivered a multi-dimensional unfolding. The cage starts centred around Deadmau5 before peeling off in a well timed and synced show matching some of his biggest tracks like “Some Chords” and “The Vedlt”.
When you consider the time period it took to put this whole live set together, you can’t help but be impressed by the complexity of the show. However, the miniature robot Deadmau5 brought with him to Guverment’s closing show were nowhere to be seen.
As if to show the repeatability of his whole live performance, Joel always brings out a left shark and hotdog for his final few songs. You should never admit to a troll, but this move certainly pulls and pushes Deadmau5’s fans with his humour all over the stunt.

2. The Light Show
IleSoniq’s vibrant display of piercing lasers, a 3D LED shaped stage, pyrotechnics, and much more was unbelievably beautiful. The festival went through a major transformation this summer by seriously upgrading the quality of the light spectacles. A couple headlining artists brought their own special treats with for some extra production aid.

The lanterns that the festival launched each night were cool additions to the hectic scene of bright lights and fireworks.

3. Relaxing In The Woods
When the sounds of electro start to drone on you and the push of people gets too much, have no fear. IleSoniq made sure to provide multiple places for people to chill-out and nap if necessary. What more could you ask for than a cosy hammock somewhere tucked away from the crowd?

4. Die Antwoord
The freaky South African duo consisting of Ninja and Yolandi put on a fantastic show for their crowd. The sheer energy these two brought onstage with the help of DJ Hi-Tek went unmatched the whole entire festival in terms of stage character and comedy.
The odd compatibility of both members together combined with dancers makes the show seem more of a spectacle than a music concert. They exhibit a bizarrely creative side of South African culture that’s caught up with their own unique style.
5. Intimate Moments With Your Favourite DJs
For the enormous capacity of the festival there appeared relatively personal moments with many of the artists interacting with the crowd. It must partially be because of the opportunities presented by staff, but also because of the audience’s pure admiration for their favourite artists.

There was an ample amount of personal moments with the audience showing a real side of Montreal, always responding well to whatever music the artists chose to play.

6. People Getting Real Dirty
Despite the amount of mud scattered around the Bud Light stage, people never seemed to stop dancing throughout both days of the event.

7. The Best Kind of Cool Down
Although the weather forecast predicted thunderstorms and rain for each August date, the reality was clear blue skies. Classic Montreal conditions. So when the crowd needed to chill out, the hoses were the best way to shower happiness over as much people as possible.

Day or night, there was no objection to the cooling beam of securities hose as people want a refreshing drench down.

8. Kiesza Sharing Her Canadian Support
Kiesza seemed to visit Montreal frequently this summer to show her appreciation for a loyal fan base here. From an earlier show at Metropolis, to accompanying Jack U on the Full Flex Express ride, she finished her summer at IleSoniq.

Near the end of Kiesza’s performance, she started speaking sincerely to the mass assembled to see her sing and dance.

9. A Stunning Show By Steve Angello
Steve Angello seemed to be a majority favourite since his set was greeted with the most hype and positive feedback afterwards. The Swedish-Greek musician has pushed himself above his history with multiple festival bookings this year. He has carved himself a unique spot in the music industry with a bright future ahead.

Near the end of his performance, Angello took some time to speak to his fans about Montreal’s culture, the city’s commitment to new music, and the unbelievable size of his audience. It was an awesome speech.

10. IleSoniq’s Trippy Curation
There is no doubt that the festival curators really did themselves proud this year with an impressive display of mushrooms around the festival fields. Taking inference from the popular singular mushroom last year, there was now a bountiful bunch of fungus spread out all around the park.
Whether you used the bigger than life mushrooms as a meeting point or simply tried getting them in a video, they seemed to satisfy the audience’s attitude towards a creative layout.

Montreal’s Parc Jean Drapeau provides a perfect setting for IleSoniq and will continue to grow with the event’s reputation over the next few years.
