NELLi Café : A Never-Before-Seen Modern Coffee Counter and Wine Bar Experience

The restaurant industry in Montreal is considered saturated as we speak, but if we’re being honest, there’s always room for innovation and creativity. Anytime a good spot opens, montrealers welcome it with open arms and we think it may have happened again. It is well-known that there are big players in the scene that seem to get it right every time they come up with a concept, and it looks like it is the case with NELLi Café, the brand new addition to the Experience Old Montreal group.

A sleek coffee counter by day and sophisticated wine bar by night, NELLi will wow you with its approachable and modern atmosphere, delicious house blend coffee, small bites and unparalleled selection of natural wines. For some reason, we really felt like we left Montreal for the duration of our visit there, and we mean that as a compliment. The whole ambiance elevated our meal very much, from stunning decor to the bomb playlist to staff service.

Located at 104 St-Paul W, NELLi is a counter and lounge experience like no other. Everything featured on the menu has been hand-picked or home-made, tested and tasted to ensure a wide variety. This is the perfect spot for a drop-in drink and a lunch-to-go, all within the classic design of the Hôtel Nelligan’s atrium. The velvet seats, the metal accents and the greenery come together beautifully to create a luxe but comfortable haven.

By day, NELLi offers some of the city’s best breakfast sandwiches on homemade brioche buns, classic smoked salmon on fresh St-Viateur bagels, healthy breakfast bowls, along with a selection of delicious baked goods. Fresh buttery viennoiseries will also be available from local favourite Hof Kelsten, which will also source fresh bread for lunch sandwiches. Freshness is key in their menu and it’s showcased on every plate. Also, a selection of fun and healthy salads will be available for lunch. Great portions and quality ingredients can be expected.

By night, connoisseurs and newcomers to wine can enjoy an always changing selection of natural wines, hand-picked by sommelier Adrien De Philip, previously of two Michelin starred concepts L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon London and Le Bristol Paris. To complement the wine selection, a dinner and sharing menu includes succulent oysters, cheese and charcuteries, shishito peppers, as well as NELLi’ signature French herb roasted chicken. The burratta is also to die for.

Thanks to the innovation of local design firm CAMDI Design, the hotel’s atrium has been completely refreshed and provides an exquisite backdrop for NELLi’s guests, 7 days a week. Guests who enter will immediately feel a sense of peace and calm as the greenery of the outdoors is brought inside; plants fill the private alcoves and create the perfect intimate atmosphere for a glass of wine in the afternoon. What’s more, a striking dark marble café counter adds an opulent touch to the bohemian-chic interior, nicely complementing the warm luxury of the Hôtel Nelligan.
