Restaurant Lloyd : Brand New Player at the Marriott Château Champlain

When thinking about a complete culinary experience, it goes further than just the food and the pairings. It takes into account the decor, the atmosphere as well as the service, along with the meal to truly make it unique. It takes a whole other level of customer experience comprehension to put together an offering like that, and the people behind the new restaurant Lloyd at the Marriott Château Champlain clearly have that kind of understanding.

The restaurant opened in June but has been operating as a soft launch until the month of November to really ensure they were up to par with the standards they set for the establishment. Polishing every aspect to make sure everything was running smoothly paid off considering how well-executed and stellar the evening was when they finally launched.

Located at 1050 De La Gauchetière, Lloyd encompasses classy, upscale fine dining in a chic ambiance that is still inviting and warm. Executive chef Kevin Mougin brings his exotic background into play, creating incredibly delicious dishes that are impressive yet not intimidating. He elevates the classics with a very creative twist, going in a direction that is not often seen in the city. The careful choice of local produce paired to unique flavour combinations make this place a force to be reckoned with.

Pastry chef Sylvain Vivier then comes in and closes up the dinner on a high note with lovely, well-balanced desserts that bring your palate on a journey without making you feel heavy. The chocolate master doesn’t only tango with the decadent ingredient; his ranges is wide and he mixes textures, tastes and visual art onto your plate, leaving patrons dazzled when they look and eat their plate. Every 3 to 4 months, the menu changes to be aligned with local offerings as well as top quality produce that are in season, and it is noticeable when enjoying any of their dishes.

It would be impossible to not mention the wonderful staff working at Lloyd that do play a strong part in a positive restaurant experience. We were greeted and waited on with the utmost kindness, patience and knowledge of their food and drinks menu, and got to hear the story of the establishment as they were making their way through the service. It is evident they love what they do and the customers’ utmost satisfaction is their number one priority.

More about the hotel and the decor

Originally designed by Quebec architects Rogers D’Astous and Jean-Paul Pothier in 1967, the Château Champlain is notable for its iconic structure and technical accomplishments. Overlooking the city from the top of its 128-meter and 38-story height, it catches the eye of passersby downtown with its rhythmic half-moon windows and the neo-Roman arches of Windsor station.

Following the hotel’s acquisition by the Tidan Group in 2018, this restoration project represents the first major renovation of the building since its construction. The Château Champlain today unveils an updated design that enhances the majestic urban landscape offered by its variety of panoramic views. Reimagined in an elegant, timeless style, the new Château Champlain reasserts its place amongst Canada’s most eminent hotels through a renewal of its interior design that integrates the spirit of the Marriott brand.

The contrast between the characteristic cold weather and the hotel’s warm hospitality is materialized in the spatial experience through the use of organic forms, desaturated colors, and reflective finishes as well as by the use of natural materials such as wood and stone. The Château Champlain has been reimagined as a nearby refuge in the heart of the city—a comforting, harmonious environment that encourages taking in views of the city, all year long.
