La Regie Des Alcools Forbids Bars To Stay Open Until 6am In Montreal

It looks like montrealers will have to stop partying at 3AM

Bummer. The pilot-project has been rejected. Everyone got excited when the possibility of bars staying open until 6AM was announced, but it’s bad news.

La Regie shut down the procedure because of how quickly it was put together. They said that this project would be a nuisance to the public’s comfort and that they didn’t take enough time to weigh the pros and cons.

They are aware that economically speaking, it would be a good thing, but they dislike how the “human” aspect got left out of it. The SPVM also didn’t seem too eager about the whole thing, which didn’t encourage the government to pursue it.

A total of 19 bars were taking part in the pilot-project to stay open until 6AM, and as much as we would have loved that, we will have to continue to settle for the usual 3AM for the moment. Maybe it’ll happen later on ? Only time will tell!

What do you think of the outcome?
