Piknic Electronik’s Opening Weekend Sets A New Record

Piknic Electronik saw Montreal hit with waves of heat and rain on Sunday May 17th and Monday May 18th.

The contagious feel good environment at Piknic Electronik is undeniable. The energy that seems consistent among the summer long attendees is what brings people back every time. This past weekend set the mood for more to come all season long.

Sunday set an all time record for the festival by hitting over 11,000 people who came out. In total the double date weekend drew over 17,000 total festival goers that came to dance, rain or shine.

Mano Le Tough’s set was strangely organic and came off as a major success. The amount of techno tuning and hi-hats drove everyone berserk in the summer heat. His performance and appearance were tropically fit for Piknic Electronik in every right way.

Sunday’s scorching sun had almost everyone smiling in shades. The summer time music and official opening attracted a huge variety of adults from all around the world.

Monday’s madness was an entirely different experience because of the difference in crowd and weather. The day started beautifully with a funky showdown by Walla P & Dr. Mad at the Videotron stage. These two Montreal producers mixing back-to-back had the entire dance floor grooving sporadically.

The Moog Stage at Piknic heard a darker techno set from British producer Heidi. She guided the audience right into the evening, before Maya Jane Coles took control of the system for the satisfaction of the crowd. Maya immediately jumped into her deeper collection of tracks.

Halfway through Maya Jane Cole’s set, the rain started to come down, but only to face an uproar from everyone dancing in the storm. The sheets of freezing raining did nothing to cool down the energy ignited from a deeper love for good music.

All in all, the opening two dates were incredible. We’ll see you next time!

Stay tuned on Canadanightlife.ca and with Piknic Electronik to hear more about who is performing this summer season.
