Piknic Electronik Celebrated This Summer In Style During “Week-ends du Monde”
Piknic Électronik went through an eventful two weekend stretch during the 11th year of “Week-ends du Monde” at Parc Jean Drapeau.
July 4th and 5th to the 11th and 12th are the official dates in which the world is sprawled all across Parc Jean Drapeau on several national stages. Within the surging mix of culture, foods, tents, and scents, there is something special that takes place by the water side.
Piknic Électronik hosted two free Saturday events to coincide with the open atmosphere of the rest of the park. On top of that, the two regular Sunday’s were bigger than ever in decoration and designer detail.
July 5th witnessed a Mardi Gras inspired event that fit perfectly and was out of the ordinary. The second official Piknic Électronik saw a host of multi-talented DJs on both stages from artists like Maher Daniel, Maus, Job Jobse, Chez Damier, and more.
An opening performance by Dave Allison
Dave Allison played a groovy set that hit all the right notes during the peek time of day on Sunday. His memorizing rhythms and funky bass line set the mood just right.
There was an ambient aura among the audience all throughout the afternoon. The Videotron stage always provides a pleasant change of sound than that’s always something different than what’s at main stage.
A smooth start from Chez Damier
Chez Damier’s funky style kept the crowd moving all day long. He is an established house producer from Chicago who has been making long lasting records like “Can You Feel It”. You can hear a real rhythm in his style that seems consistent through almost all of his work.
The early afternoon of July 5th during Week-ends du Monde felt splendid in the heat as the area was constantly busy during both events at the park. Piknic’s placement on Jean Drapeau is right on the edge of the island, as if to smoothly spy on the side of the city.
Job Jobse’s energetic entrance
The opening afternoon at Piknic Electronik’s second Sunday saw Job Jobse play a super happy set. His presence and persona were perfect for the light footed group of people up front and centre for his set.
Job Jobse’s techno sounding tones kept the energy high in the blistering heat. The MOOG audio system was impressively stable throughout the day providing quality sound.
Maus and Johnny D perform back to back together
MAUS is a memorable DJ on decks who never seems to loose her touch of taunting the audience with booming transitions. Her skills alongside Johnny D, a German DJ and producer, are perfectly matched and the two musicians seemed to merge simultaneously in style and sound.
These two side by side was an epic event that had the crowd really engaged with their mood. The two constantly swapped back and forth taking turns at the front leading the sometimes exotic sonic soundscape.
Maher Daniel ends the weekend off on the darker side
Maher Daniel is no new name to the Montreal scene. He keeps the crowd consistently happy with a dark energy that only Piknic people will appreciate. The night turned into a heavier mood with the bass at play.
Montreal’s Piknic Électronik scene puts the crowd into such a sensational mindset all summer. The island of Parc Jean Drapeau gives a fantastic view of the city skyline across the river. Excellent duel weekend.
