Piknic Électronik Is The Best Way To Spend A Sunday Afternoon In Montreal

It’s Sunday morning. Of course, you probably slept in a little longer than usual. Your head is killing from the night before… guess it was a good night. Most people would just take the rest of the day off, relax and get themselves ready for work on Monday. But you… no, you wanna keep the party going for as long as you can! Or you just want to get out of the house and find a cool spot to chill, have a drink and listen to some good music. However you want to spend your Sunday afternoon, there is a place in Montreal where you can do everything I’ve just mentioned: party, drink, relax and enjoy some really good music. And that place is called Piknic Électronik.

Piknic Électronik is a weekly open-air event held at Montreal’s Jean Drapeau Park. For 15$ (10$ if you arrive between 2pm and 3pm), attendees have access to Piknic’s entire facilities, including 2 stages, a vaste array of bars, each serving their own specialty drinks, and access to beautiful views of the Montreal skyline by the water. Many people bring food with them and enjoy late afternoon meals, while some choose to purchase a meal from one of Piknic’s many ”casse-croûtes” along with a bottle of wine. Piknic has something to offer for everyone, which is why so many people choose to spend their Sundays there. But where Piknic really shines is in the musical talent that they bring in week after week.

The organizers at Piknic have gained a lot of respect from Montreal electronic music fans over the years because they consistently book some of the finest talents, local as well as international. Their mission statement describes it best:

Piknic Électronik is an innovative weekly event that indulges audiences while constantly proposing new discoveries. With electronic music at the core of its mission, Piknic aims to open up the genre by offering an immersive social experience. Defined by its specialized yet accessible programming, Piknic Électronik knows how to please both electronic enthusiasts and newcomers alike. Local and international talent tag team on the two stages, each offering a unique atmosphere in a distinct setting.

In the 4 weeks since the opening of its 2014 season, international DJs such as Wolf + Lamb, Daniel Avery, Agoria and Matthias Zimmerman, as well as local talents Ostrich, MightyKat and Tommy Kruise. On June 1st, after Montreal’s Mutek Festival, Piknic attendees were treated to a surprise DJ set by one of the biggest names in the underground house scene, Ricardo Villalobos.  On that day, Piknic had a record attendance, with over 9500 happy piknickers present.

Some of my best summer nights were spent on Sundays at Piknic Électronik. The music, the people and the overall vibe of this place make it a truly unique event. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to extend your party marathon till Sunday evening or if you’re looking to relax and soak up some sun, there simply is no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon in Montreal than a good piknic. Join us again this weekend, as we’re expecting some beautiful weather, and another amazing Piknic session. See you on the dancefloor!
