What We Like In Music Right Now (Vol.1)

There is a growing demand for good music as the amount of musicians swell in size and style. Dance music has never been considered such an umbrella term as it’s constantly fading the lines of genres. Festivals expand in almost all aspects and line ups list a range of new talent. So where do you start looking in all this chaos and creativity?

Canadanightlife has the answer to your confusion and clustered Soundcloud streams. Every week I will do the searching for you to find songs that are certified fresh or instant pleasures.
No promotions, no numbers, no genres, no nonsense; this is purely quality music that we think you’ll like.

Nelly Furtado & Timberland – “Promiscuos” (Dr. Fresch Remix)

This track hits all kinds of feels. Nostaliga to start, then realistically a deep satisfaction as Dr. Fresch strikes with his usual brilliancy in Tech House. He combines lyrics we all know with a dark bass for a stunning result. If you’re not familiar with this LA Legend then I suggest you start listening to more of his music. There is a definite reason why he starts this week’s list off.

SBTRKT – “VOICES IN MY HEAD” ft. A$AP Ferg

Musical mastermind SBTKRT forever impresses us with his ingenious ideas and unique collaborations. This is the first track he’s officially put out from his upcoming album, Wonder Where We Land, which comes out September 29th. Always experimental and trying new sounds, Ferg comes in with a strong verse on an ambitious soundscape.

CHROMEO – Lost On The Way Home” ft. Solange (Shash’U PWRFNK Remix)

Montreal’s own Shash’U takes on a classic track from funk legends Chromeo. This remix starts slow yet provides a powerful punch of energy. Motivationally sexy, this track has a relatively slow bpm yet makes light work of “Lost On The Way Home”.

Dirty South – “Tunnel Vision” ft. Somekindawonderful

Dirty South just premiered this track in lure of his upcoming album With You, which will be released on November 4th. This album will also have a short film released to coincide, also titled With You and expected for September 23. “Tunnel Vision” is dark and daring, moving over a cautious beat. Somekindawonderful’s vocals are memorizing as the soundscape grows with intensity.

Dreadlock & ITISI – “Still”

Montreal’s own musician Dreadlock has just released a brand new master piece titled “Still”. The track features guitarist ITISI on the track as the two forces join ideas to make a magical work of downtempo. Around half way there is a stall of tension as the music has a serious breakdown before slowly climbing back up again.

Oliver $ & Jimi Jules – “Pushing On” (Tchami Remix)

This song, oh this song. Tchami played this live prior it’s release this year at Osheaga and I still remember it vividly. It’s been a staple song in almost every mix he’s made in the past few months and is sure to be a crowd pleaser for months to come. The energy it emits is enormous and highly contagious.

Excision & Dion Tlmmer – “Out Of Time” ft. Splitbreed

This song completely blew me away the first time I pressed play from the sheer aggression brought forward. Excision is a standard icon in the dubstep scene and this new release followed by his recent Shambhala was too much bass for one week. “Out Of Time” starts building tension up to the drop where Excision and Dion Tlmmer bring wave after wave of filth.

P.Keys – “Not To Play With” (Prod. by KAYTRANADA)

This track is one of Soundcloud’s secrets that you stumble across late at night. P.Key has been barely picked up in the commotion of Soundcloud yet has a contagiously catchy sound. Montreal’s musician Kaytranada makes a thick and thumping beat to match P.Keys on two layers.

Favourite Mixes

Oliver Heldens – Heldeep Mixtape 5 (Summer Edition)

Oliver Heldens always impresses with his talented mixes and skills behind the screen. If you’ve followed his Soundcloud pages you’ll have heard his occasional radio episode or recent teases of new material. This mix is non stop intensity from start to finish that includes a wide range of popular music and high energy sounds.

Thump – Mixed by Bonobo

Bonobo is a musical genius who has always impressed his audience in inspiring ways. His unique sound of downtempo and dance worthy music has stuck out over each album release. His skills range from being able to communicate with other live musicians as a full band to making magic behind decks. Montreal is lucky enough to see him again this year on September 21th at SAT.
