‘What’s In My Baggie?’ That MDMA At Music Festivals This Summer Was Probably Bath Salts

When the documentary ‘What’s In My Baggie?’ went viral this week, it certainly startled a large group of people who simply had no idea of the dangers involved with misinformed consumers.

What makes this video so chilling is how close to home it feels and the sudden realization about the amount of fake drugs circulating around us.

The documentary follows a small group from the Bunk Police who travelled to six major festivals in America and tested peoples’ drugs to see transparency of what they thought they had bought.

Bunk Police are an organization that are making positive moves and righteous steps towards decreasing the sale of corrupt drugs. Their method relies on a chemical solution that when mixed with any narcotic will turn a specific colour. Each drug turns an exact colour when mixed with the chemical solution, if it is a pure substance. Yet as you’ll see in the documentary, this is rarely the case.

Although this method may not seem one hundred percent guaranteed or even verified by the scientific community, it seems the most practical way when you consider that at a festival the second option is popping without question. Yet despite the awareness the Bunk Police bring, they are constantly kicked out of festivals and events because of one piece of American legislation titled “The Rave Act”, which was signed in 2003.

Essentially what the Rave Act says is that any venue cannot condone drug use at any event because they will be liable for providing a location for illegal drug activity. Aka the Bunk Police cannot conduct testing stations because that would mean the venue acknowledges and realizes drug use as an apparent risk factor. This poses a serious challenge when the Bunk Police are focused on safety rather than reduction.

The content of this video goes much further than just six festivals in America. Here in Montreal we are constantly faced with a frequent use of drugs in our culture. This is partially due to the overwhelming demographic of young students living in one of Canada’s top party cities. With such a high demand it becomes the sellers best interest to move fake product when they cannot continuously deal to their customers.

It then becomes the responsibility of the user to protect themselves because the drug business is certainly not official. Regardless of what affiliations you think you have with whoever sells you your interests, there is never a way to be sure what you have is legitimate. Especially when you consider MDMA, which can come in various forms and is becoming a staple supplement for EDM culture.

Follow Bunk Police’s motto, “If you’re going to take it, test – No matter who you’re getting it from.”
