“There were over 50,000 attendees this year”

If there is one thing the Montreal Comiccon is amazing at, it’s getting larger and larger every year.

The atmosphere of the convention is palpable and amps up with every costumed fans you happen to cross on the street or in the metro.

Many big names were present this year, notably Patrick Stewart (Star Trek: TNG), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), and Stephen Amell (Arrow). Regrettably Guest of Honor, Matt Smith (Doctor Who), was forced to bow out of the convention, leaving many Whovians a little morose.

Actor Karl Urban (Star Trek, Lord of the Rings) held a charming Q&A, winning the crowd over with his heavily accented French salutation and thoughtfully witty responses to fan questions.

Artist Alley and varied comic and clothing booths were constantly busy. This year many local Pop Culture podcast hosts joined the fray to promote their shows.

Cosplayers, fans dressed in costume as their favorite characters, were also in abundance this year sporting costumes seen in old comic and TV classics as well as new Blockbusters such as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The character of Castiel of the hit TV show Supernatural is an obvious fan favorite.

Despite the hordes of people lining up to enter the exposition hall (there were over 50,000 attendees this year), there is no sense of impatience or annoyance, simply the excited buzz of thousands of fans gathering around in eager anticipation for the Con to begin.

The experience can be overwhelming; with so much to see and do it almost seems as though three days are not enough to experience it all.

Thankfully, we only have to wait for July 2015 for the next one.
