Nom Nom Cantine : the New Restaurant of the W Hotel
Going out to dinner or having drinks in a hotel restaurant doesn’t seem to really be in montrealers’ habits, but this place is definitely worth the detour. The W hotel houses a new restaurant remplacing Ê.A.T called Nom Nom Cantine, and it exceeded our expectations on all fronts. Succulent flavours in dishes and drinks that are very well-priced, in a unique decor with staff service that is on point; we can’t ask for more.

When you mix French technique, Asian ingredients and a contemporary philosophy of cooking, you get Nom Nom. Focused on small compositions and dishes to share, the cuisine of the canteen does not fall under any label. You can expect variety and new discoveries (tartare with matcha? Yes please!) because the menu will vary according to the events in town, the trends, the seasons but especially the mood of the chef!
The decor is casual and minimalistic while being creative (there’s a military parachute in there) which is a different vibe from the W’s high-end crisp modern look. With the collaboration of the New York firm Pure Gray and designer Philipp Haemmerle, who brings his guests back to the basics; he brings patrons back to the simple pleasure of eating, drinking and exchanging.

The staff is cordial and professional if you need more information, but still take the time to really speak with the client and take their time with each and every one of the parties. They will advise you on the food and drinks as well as go the extra mile to meet your needs. I went back a couple of times on my own, and they truly understand what hospitality is. You can tell the mentality behind it is to give a tailor-made service to people that walk through the door, and it’s working.

Nom Nom is a casual but trendy spot that offers its local clientele a unique restaurant experience. Their mission revolves around the concept of sharing in a deconstructed environment. Whether for a business lunch or a night out with friends, the calm yet welcoming atmosphere is the perfect setting to a successful outing.
You can also check out another addition to the W hotel called Bartizen, a wonderful bar dedicated to gin and awesome cocktails in a chill atmosphere.
