Georges St-Pierre Vacates UFC Welterweight Belt

UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre has announced today that he will vacate the title he has held since 2008 to undergo an indefinite leave of absence.

GSP’s announcement comes nearly one month after his controversial victory over Hendricks at UFC 167. Following the win, which marked St-Pierre’s ninth consecutive defense title of his title, a weary St-Pierre vaguely elaborated on his need to take some time away from the sport due to personal issues.

“I can’t sleep at night now,” he said at UFC 167’s post-fight press conference. “I have issues. I am going crazy.”

“I need to make a point, man. I need to get out for awhile. I don’t know what I’m going to do.”
