After Investing 200 000$ L’Assomoir’s Food Truck Gets Denied Their License With No Explanation
“Monsieur Coderre, SVP répondez-moi!”
That is how a statement issued by L’Assomoir’s owner Emmanuel Lopes started, imploring the mayor of Montreal to acknowledge the letter dated from last week exposing an unfortunate issue.
Being part of the pilot-project “Cuisine de rue” in 2013, they were going to repeat the experience this summer, but got a short, non-detailed email telling them otherwise. They are being excused from the project for 2014, which the owner is trying to remedy the situation, especially after spending more than 200 000$ to conform to city requirements.
Emmanuel Lopes has been trying to get in touch with the mayor, but had to get through countless officials who keep denying the problem, and the lack of organization that’s causing the trouble. Exposing statistics and financial facts throughout the letter, the owner sheds light on various loopholes the project presented and the repercussions it’s having now on the business, whether environmental, financial, or social.
On a more positive note, we had the chance to try their food and it was delicious, hence why they got invited to Toronto to promote the Montreal Jazz Festival, as the owner pointed out.
L’Assomoir made it in the Top 10 most expected food trucks for the summer according to Tourisme Montreal, and we hope the misunderstanding will be cleared so we can all go back to enjoying awesome food in the city.
