Montreal To Possibly Host An EDM Festival To Join The Ranks of New York, Belgium and Miami?
EDM Festival Hosted at Parc Jean-Drapeau By Evenko?
UPDATE: The festival has been confirmed here
There’s no hiding it, Montreal’s primary promoters, Evenko, are up to something big. What was merely a rumour for the past couple of years may see the light of day come August 2014.
There is quite the buzz going around about bringing a premier electronic music festival to our city, more specificly Parc Jean-Drapeau. If the rumour comes to fruition, it is said that the event intends to replicate the format in which Electric Zoo (New York), Tomorrowland (Belgium) and Ultra (Miami) are done in.
The idea is to slot the EDM festival on the weekend following Evenko’s subsidiary festivals, Osheaga & Heavy MTL. The dates would fall along the lines of the 15th-16th- 17th of August. As a result, the month of August in Montreal would have three unique attractions back to back to back.
The likes of Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Zedd and Martin Garrix could be among those present at the 1st edition of the event. Recent buzz has suggested that the dubstep duo known as Adventure Club could be the first official headliners.
Also, Nervo and Fatboy Slim could be performing as their recovery gig after both acts pulled out of this year’s Bal en Blanc.
It should be noted that heavyweights Avicii and Calvin Harris are to be taken out of context as both have European shows during the proposed time of the festival.
Could this be the pièce de résistance that our city needs to be recognized as a household name for electronic music? There are a few more details to be addressed before Evenko issues an official announcement. Meanwhile Montreal’s renowned party people will keep their fingers crossed!
