An Interview With Dannic Before His Sold Out Show at New City Gas
On Valentine’s Day weekend, we got to catch up with Revealed’s very own Dannic before his sold out show at New City Gas.
Find out what he had to say about his year, what we can expect from him, his latest releases and much more!
Canadanightlife: Last time we chatted was in May at Beach Club. Since, you’ve released all the projects you were working on then and got to play a long list of festivals and shows; including I Am Hardwell at Madison Square Garden. How would you say 2014 has been for you?
Dannic: Wow. Definitely the best year I’ve had so far. Crazy gigs, amazing festivals – Tomorrowland is a hightlight. I mean, playing mainstage of course. I was also really happy with my release schedule, the tracks did really well.
CNL: Tough one to beat?
Dannic: Yes! But I’m hoping for the best, of course.
CNL: So it’s safe to say it was a huge year for you. As 2015 just started and festival season is quickly approaching, what are some plans you can tell us about?
Dannic: Well, I’m continuing to release new tracks, since I spent some time in the studio in January during my time off. I did a remix of Dark Warrior for Andrew Rayel, and I have a new collaboration with Lucky Date and Harrison, which will be released in March. Also, everything happening on Revealed. Besides that, new vocal track, new progressive track, something more funky again… A lot of cool new things!
CNL: Another busy year ahead?
Dannic: Definitely!
CNL: Speaking of new plans and projects, Golden Hearts premiered not long ago with Montreal’s very own Domeno and Canadian DJ Bynon. How did that come about?
Dannic: Actually, it’s a funny story. I have the Dannic Selection EP, so every producer can send in his demo. Obviously, I’ve known Domeno for a while, so I was selecting the EP and we talked over Skype and I asked him if he had any new tracks and he said maybe this is something and sent me an instrumental, which I thought was really cool and had potential, but it had no vocals on it and some things I wanted to change. So we searched for vocals- 10 or 11 of them didn’t make it. They make the whole track and I’m super happy for the guys, it’s a great release.
CNL: I couldn’t agree more! Love the track. Now, last year you hit number 30 on the DJMag Top 100 Poll. How did you feel about that and what can we expect from you as you continue climbing the charts?
Dannic: Number 30 is a hard one to beat. I was number 74 and of course I hope to keep climbing the charts little by little, but not by 44 spots, it’s incredible. I’m really thankful for that. It’s appreciation for all the hard work, it’s cool to get recognition for my work by the fans. It shows how dedicated they are!
CNL: You start a new residency tomorrow night at Drai’s nightclub. How excited are you about that?
Dannic: The show tomorrow is extra special because it’s also Valentine’s Day. I’ll play Golden Hearts for sure. But honestly, it’s really cool. I’ve only been there for 10 minutes while someone was showing me around because I heard great stories about it, and there was a mutual interest. Production is off the charts- Drai’s is next level!
CNL: EDC or Ultra?
Dannic: Ultra.
CNL: Vegas or Miami?
Dannic: Vegas.
CNL: Indoor or outdoor venues?
Dannic: Indoor.
CNL: Craziest city to play in?
Dannic: Montreal!
CNL: One thing you must bring on tour with you, beside DJ equipment?
Dannic: My watch. I can’t live without it!
CNL: What kind of music do you listen to beside what you produce?
Dannic: Oh it can be anything. From John Legend to Daft Punk, 50 Cent… Doesn’t matter.
CNL: Lastly, in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, who’s your valentine?
Dannic: Definitely my girlfriend!
