These Were Montreal’s Most Memorable Moments of Igloofest 2015

Igloofest 2015 Is Finally Over After A Glorious Four Week Stretch of Festivities!

February’s winter slowly settles in and the snow starts to accumulate in troublesome amounts all around Montreal.

Everyone who attended Igloofest can’t help but sorrow at the sore fact that the festival is finished.

This year hosted numerous talented acts, such as John Digweed, Justin Martin, Flosstradamus, Oliver Heldens, Eekkoo, Project Pablo, and many more.

Every single night of Igloofest had a significant artist performing and only time will tell what the lineup will reveal for next year’s event.

To properly conclude such a magnificent festival stretch, Canadanightlife has outlined several key moments and aspects from Igloofest that make it stick out as such a unique experience.

Whether you attended one single night or indulged in a pass for over half a dozen days, this list is intended to help you relive that Igloofest mentality.

Some Majestic Snowfalls

The first serious snow fall to cover the crowd at Igloofest was when Flosstradamus closed the first weekend on January 18th.

The Hydnation came out in full force to get down to some trap tracks from one of Chicago’s finest duos. That night the snow only enforced everyone’s frantic state of mind.

Any day of the festival that the snow falls on the crowd you can feel a certain atmosphere in the air.

People stop for a moment to appreciate the beauty of where they are and what’s around them. Snowfalls at Igloofest are truly a magical thing.

The Festival Grounds

One of the reasons that makes Igloofest so rememberable is the diverse layout of extra activities for the audience to engage with.

The entire festival ground is massive with two separate stages, an Igloo photo booth, inside shelter, and a whole space of games. Many people come to experience the entirety of what Igloofest offers, let alone for just the artists playing.

Igloofest and Front Rite Tuques Everywhere

You can guarantee that among the sea of ski suits, snow pants, and lost gloves, there will be a colourful spectrum of different tuques.

There were a handful of vintage Igloofest tuques still apparent while this years series being in popular demand.

It was especially nice to see a blend of Front Rite tuques moving through the crowd and always gathered in the top corner.

Trying To Stay Warm

If the negative 20 and more degrees weather didn’t have your toes curled or fists clenched, then the harsh Montreal winds probably did when coming or leaving.

The few heat lamps scattered throughout the left side of the event and store boutique in the back were always bustling on the frigid nights.

Whether you encounter into a mysterious group of minions or some bananas cross your path, you’re bound to run into someone who dressed to impress.

The creative costumes people design for festivals are always well thought out. Igloofest sets the bar even higher because attendees are trying to keep warm from the cold.

The Audience’s Hype Around Oliver Heldens

Out of all the Igloofest dates, it’s easily claimable that the 19 year old prodigy Oliver Heldens brought out the most dedicated fan base.

When you consider the fact that there was numerous signs made for him, a nearly sold out attendance, and one girl willing to take off her bra for him in the cold, it’s undeniable that he made a massive impression.

I personally spoke with Oliver after his performance in a private setting where we discussed his success so far from 2014, upcoming music, and playing in Montreal before at Beach Club. You can read the entire interview here.

Beaux Degats Art Spectacle

Beaux Degats is a monthly art competition that takes place in Montreal hosted by Fresh Paint Gallery.

The event usually is held in a warmer setting at Foufounes Electriques with six teams competing.

Yet Beaux Degats made an exception for Igloofest by having two prior winning teams in 2014 face off against each other.

Ironaxe and Woodland Creatures painted murals in only two hours in the cold, shown below respectively.
