Boulangerie Jarry : a New Delicious Artisanal Bakery Settles in Cozy Villeray
Winter is coming and this calls for more carbs! I have a special place in my heart for bakeries and this one will be my new favorite. Dominique Gauvrit, an experienced baker and former owner of two Première Moisson branches, is opening the doors of his own artisan bakery where respect and love for raw ingredients are at the center of everything. Located at 380 Jarry east in a former bank, Boulangerie Jarry is a place for meetings and sharing a common love of good bread.

Unpretentious and authentic, the bakery is a place that creates a feel-good atmosphere for everybody. You will find a long counter in front of the window overlooking Jarry street, communal tables and a church bench to gather around a fresh croissant or a homemade soup with a good nourishing bread. The counter displays all the beautiful different loafs and it leaves you salivating.
The magnificent flour mill, the centerpiece of the bakery, was placed in a tempered glass room so that customers and passers-by could admire it and witness the process of grain transformation.

In addition to a magnificent variety of classical breads, such as apricot, pecan and cardamom breads, the counter is full of pastries and patisseries, including decadent home-made cookies, and caramel and black sesame brownies. The products offered will also follow the seasons: apple slipper, pumpkin pie and log for the holidays.
Bread made from yellow pea flour, polenta and pumpkin is a favorite of customers. You have to arrive early to get it! Another advantage is the availability of a self-service bread slicer, allowing you to slice your bread into slices of the desired thickness. We love the customize touch they offer.

It’s in a beautiful brick building formerly home to the Laurentian Bank that Dominique Gauvrit decided to open the Boulangerie Jarry. The 2700 square feet room is divided between the kitchen at the back and the front area for clients. There’s also has a room called the safe room (direct translation) in memory of the bank safe whose mechanism has been preserved and exposed behind a window.
To eat on-site, you will find soups, sandwiches, salads, quiche and lasagna that composes the menu. Brunch will also be served on the weekend. The bakery has forty seats to enjoy the food in a unique decor that is both rustic and warm, which displays the character of the building. It’s not every day that you can munch on a snack with friends next to a full-blown bank vault!
