Bar Mme Lee – 151 rue Ontario Est.
Mme Lee is located on 151 Ontario Street just below Sherbrooke, if you are not familiar with the area, it is where the Jello Bar resided. After 7 months of intense renovations and a whole architectural revamp here is Mme Lee.
Named after the landlord who has owned the building for more than 25 years, Mme Lee offers a fresh and rejuvenated approach to montreal’s bar scene. Designed with an industrial and wooden look, the light fixtures and tiles could make you think of a paris metro station.
Cecile, the bar manager, introduced us to what what she now calls home. She explains to us that this bar is not for the “show off /over complicated menu” that restaurants tend to have these days. It’s a cut to the chase deal and in our view, it pays off. The drinks and cocktails menu is pretty funky; Chinese Delight (gin, lemon, bitters, perrier), Le Laloux (jack, chambord, raspberries, cranberries, perrier, bitters), Le “Rob Ford”(apérol, Buffalo Trace, calvados, grapefruit) to montreal’s own Orange Julep (bombay, galliano, egg white, orange, eau de fleur d’oranger), are some of the cocktails you will find to the list. Mme Lee also has a variety of hand picked wines, from private imports, changing them seasonally.
The bar also offers a dining menu by young chef Misha Smarzik (Above). Vancouver native, Misha and his sous-chef work in a “deep-fryer free” kitchen, which leaves them with a healthier menu. Same recipe applies to the kitchen’s menu (a cut to the chase) seasonal menu. Fresh salmon & beef tartare with ceviches, Spicy lobster rolls, fresh locally produced artichoke salad, platters of “charcuterie fine” and of fine cheese bring the appropriate touch to the menu. Take a look at the plates we had !
Special thanks goes out to Cecile, Nicolas and Misha for the incredible service and food!
