A Magical New Years @ The Guvernment
It has been slightly over a week since everyone took part in the proverbial New Years countdown to ring in 2014, and while my posts tend to be more promptly executed when handling an event review, I still to this day am processing the greatness that was my New Years Eve. Thanks to our friends at INK Entertainment, I was lucky enough to attend the Magic NYE Extravaganza at the all access The Guvernment Koolhaus complex.
Let’s break things down. For those unaware of what was about to transpire, the evening’s lineup was a deep house gone overtly aggressive electro fan’s fantasy realized. With Rebecca & Fiona, Ben Gold, and the infamous W&W performing at Koolhaus (Where I stationed myself for the evening), fans were about to be treated to something magical…All puns intended;)

While I myself have yet to see Rebecca & Fiona take the stage (Which was a grave mistake on my part), I instantly fell in love with their musical sensibilities. Granted, I always recognized them to be extremely versatile and talented, but never thought about seeing what they could deliver on a live stage. I think most people were taken aback at how deep their transitions were, which ultimately kicked the night off with a bang and laid the foundation for Ben Gold to deliver his best live performance of the year.
Having seen him perform four times already in 2013, I was excited to see what tunes he would choose to end the year with. I could wax poetic for hours about his choices, but based on the crowd reaction, he was on fire. I can only imagine what 2014 will look like for his releases…I feel like a prepubescent teenage girl waiting for One Direction’s latest album release at the local HMV (People still shop there right?).

To end the night of aggressive knee lock dancing and shoulder rides, W&W took to the stage to showcase what they could do behind the decks…While their performance was reminiscent of their Essential Mix, it honestly didn’t matter at that point. Both they and the crowd were in the zone. When I leave a show broken and battered, I know it was a good time. The struggle the next morning was all too real.

The best part? Beyond having ample room to dance (Don’t let this fool you, the place was packed), I got to spend the night with some amazing friends, while reconnecting with old acquaintances and meeting happy ravers. It was the perfect blend of musical styles and genres, catering to the vast audience in attendance. What a fantastic way to set the stage for another great year of music!
