The 5 Things You Missed At Toronto’s Very First EDM Festival Of The Summer

The First Festival Of The 2014 Season

A little over a week ago, I had the opportunity to hit up Electric Elements Festival in Wasaga Beach on behalf of www.canandanightlife.ca. The newly created single day event was set to kick off festival season with warm weather, good vibes, and a solid lineup overall that clearly catered to those who wanted to rage.

If anything, I think the event was a great way to kick off festival season. A solid, despite slightly less varied lineup, provided a bunch of back to back sets that kept the crowd bouncing up until Benassi finished dropping his last track. To be honest, I was just happy that I now have another chance to rage under the warm weather come next year when the festival expands even more. Luckily for those who didn’t get the chance to go, I’m giving you a list of the “5 Things You Missed @ Electric Elements” so that you can prepare for next year:

1.Toronto Has Amazing Local Producers

It is pretty safe to say that as a city that deeply loves electronic music, Toronto and the outlying areas have given birth to some amazing local talent. With acts like ‘Mavro’ and ‘Matt Zanardo’ hitting the stage, we got to see the up and comers testing new music for fans, while learning to play for a festival crowd. Supporting the new generation is important in my eyes, and festivals like Electric Elements are the perfect place to start.

2.Every Festival Has Room To Improve

What I specifically loved about the Electric Elements team is their willingness to improve for the next year. Instead of listing the ways, I broke down the festival in the video below and offered some personal suggestions as to how to make it even better. If you love electronic music, check out my YouTube channel…As a correspondent for various websites, I wanted to create a place to talk about the music and scene that we love so much. 3.The Crowd Was Ready To Rage

Despite some of the lineup’s attempts to play some more progressive tracks, the crowd definitely was in the mood for some of that ‘electro-bounce’ festival sound. Essentially, the higher the BPM, the harder the crowd hit the dance floor. Honestly, how could you blame them? Amazing weather means plenty of reasons to dance.

4.It Just Felt Happy

Despite being a 16+ event (I prefer older age restrictions for festivals), everyone seemed to be in a good mood. It wasn’t overly crowded, but still felt busy. And everywhere you turned, people were raging, meeting friends of friends, or just having a refreshing beer in the sun. My only real complaint was the sound system lacking the necessary power to reach people in the back of the ‘Beer Garden’.

5.The Artists Seemed To Have A Blast

I think you can immediately tell when an artist is having a good time. Their sets tend to be livelier, the crowd participation is elevated, and when they rage, you rage. It seemed that each act was more than happy to play for the crowd. My condolences go out to DVBBS for having to cancel their timeslot last minute due to a death in the family.
