Beaux Degats is an art initiative based out of Montreal appealing to creative groups from all over Canada. The event started as a fundraiser for the Under Pressure Festival, aimed at encouraging creativity and playing on the idea of professional exhibits. Now three years later and the series has spread around the city appearing at Piknic Electronik, Igloofest, and McGill’s OAP.

Adrien Fumex, one of the original founders of Beaux Degats, sees potential for the artistic attraction and plans to bring the project abroad outside of Canada. Today the Fresh Paint Gallery, which is the permanent space for competing artists to thrive, has grown across two galleries. Both institutions are on Saint Catherine (221 & 256) and continue to help local and international artists with their work.

Beaux Dégâts as a monthly competition takes place at Foufounes Electriques in the main room upstairs hosting six teams. The atmosphere is truly unique with an interactive mood among the artists as they unite with the audience throughout the whole occasion. The teams are given themes on the spot with only two hours to cover the wall space, emphasizing the creative force under pressure. It’s a guaranteed good time for any Wednesday evening!

Learning from the first year’s hiccups, the organizer took special attention to genuine feedback to try and make this year an improvement.
