Happening Gourmand is Back : the 13th Edition of the Staple Culinary Tradition in Montreal

One of the few ways to get us out of our warm and comfortable cocoon during the cold months is evidently related to food. Every year, patrons wait impatiently for the return of this food festival called the Happening Gourmand because of how much of a bargain it is. You basically get the real portions in a table d’hôte that costs way less than the restaurant would usually charge for. Same quality, same taste, and a variety of choices at a lower cost; basically it’s all positive for epicureans like us.

It started as only dinners, then they introduced brunch, and now they graduated to a triple threat offering by adding the beloved 5@7 formula to the deal. Old Montreal will once again come alive with flavour from January 16th to February 9th; a month-long gastronomic experience in which outstanding restaurants offer exceptional 3-course table d’hôte menus at a reduced price.

This year will be the festival’s biggest yet, with 10 participating restaurants. The impressive lineup composed of Bevo Bar + Pizzéria, Brasserie 701, Kyo Bar Japonais, Maggie Oakes, Méchant Boeuf, Modavie, Taverne Gaspar, Verses Bistro, Vieux-Port Steakhouse, and Jacopo are opening their doors and their kitchens, with a promise to satisfy all palates.

Each will offer new and revamped table d’hôte menus beginning at $25, 7 brunch table d’hôte options each at $17, and a new 5-à-7 offer with a $12 menu featuring a delectable entrée and a drink at select locations.

Whether it’s outstanding classic or contemporary cuisine, Happening Gourmand lets everyone experience the very best of Old Montreal’s gourmet dining and incredible nightlife at an affordable cost, which is always welcome considering how the holidays affect our wallets. Going out for dinner doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg to enjoy quality ingredients and a great atmosphere.

If brunch is more your style, gather your friends at one of the restaurants offering a table d’hôte brunch menu during Happening Gourmand. Treat yourself to an assortment of dishes and toast to the start of a new year with the different drink options and packages offered in participating restaurants.

For the first time ever, select restaurants will also offer a 5@7 menu so you can relax after work and enjoy a glass of wine, beer or cocktail and an appetizer without breaking the bank. That’s what real relaxation is all about!

The fun doesn’t stop there. You can experience not only the best in Old Montreal’s fine dining this winter, but also step into the iconic neighbourhood’s nightlife like never before during this festival. Once again this year, Happening Gourmand is proud to partner up with Igloofest, offering clients at any one of their 10 participating restaurants Igloofest tickets at a 15% discount.

For a more family friendly activity, they are partnering with the Old Port Skating Rink as well, to offer families a different way of experiencing the neighbourhood this winter. Going for brunch and enjoying the outdoors while skating sounds like a plan, whether with your cousins, parents, or your date.
