Discover 34 Kinds Of Gin At Restaurant Le Pourvoyeur In Montreal
From Québec all the way to the Netherlands, Le Pourvoyeur on Jean-Talon, carries a wide array of gins that will surely cater all of your drinking needs, 34 different ones to be more specific. Who knew Montreal could carry such a great variety of gins.
We were invited to Le Pourvoyeur’s media night to feature the launch of their new menu by chef Olivier Racicot and his team.
3 Gins Paired To 3 Meals
We were set up to try 3 gins paired with 3 plates coming out of the kitchen. The restaurant offers “Planchettes” which allow you to taste different kinds of gin.
1st Pairing: Tanqueray Gin & Bone Marrow
The first plate, paired with the traditional yet delicious Tanqueray Gin was the Pourvoyeur’s Bone Marrow. A characteristic of the Tanqueray London dry gin is that no sugar is added after the distillation process, explained Valerian Roy, one of the owners and gin specialist. The bone marrow was incredibly rich in taste.
2nd Pairing: Piger Henricus & Guédille
The second gin we tasted was from Quebec, the Piger Henricus (latin for Slow Harry) is a slowly micro distilled gin with added parsnip, which allows the gin to have a delicate bitterness and subtle floral aroma. If you enjoy Hendricks gin, Henricus is a must try. Our second course was the Pourvoyeur’s take on the “Guédille“. A light and refreshing crabe & shrimp filled Yorkshire pudding packed with flavour.
3rd Pairing: Barr Hill Gin & Pork Shank
Vermont’s own Barr Hill gin is a pure grain spirit that acts as a canvas showcasing juniper berry and raw northern honey. In house marinated vegetables were served as appetizers for our main course; Pork Shank & mashed potato gratiné. The meat was so tender it fell of the bone.

Chef Olivier had one final surprise, he brought us next door where he has opened La Pourvoirie, along with three partners, the shop is divided into two major sections, Canard Du Lac Brome & Ils En Fument Du Bon. Here you will find duck, sausages and even more duck, ranging from “foie gras” to gin infused sausages all hand made in their great butcher shop.

If you are a gin enthusiast like me, it is safe to say that we have found our niche.
Cheers,
