The 10 Must-See Djs Performing At Ilesoniq Music Festival This Year

The hum of new music is fresh in the air and summer is in full blossom. Beautiful girls parade through Old Montreal while the cross sections of Place-des-arts are continuously busy. Musicians and artists alike are inspired by the enormous amount of cross creativity that constantly keeps this city alive. Festival season is upon us.

One of the most highly anticipated events this summer for the growing music scene emerging in Montreal is the electronic music festival, îleSoniq.

For this festival’s premiere year, they’ve done a quality job of bringing artists from across the pond to come play and bringing Montreal talent right into the spotlight. Furthermore, the festival has managed to round a diverse group of musicians who cover a wide range of genres and sound design.

After phase two of the lineup was finally announced, the real commotion started. Below are ten acts (in no particular order) who are performing at îleSoniq that we believe will set the bar for future years.

10. Zeds Dead

Without a doubt, one of the most spectacular shows of skill will be Canadian DC and Hooks, formally known as Zeds Dead. Originally from Toronto, it is no surprise that they are one of the main headliners. This multi-genre duo will hop across a range of tempo and style, as they take the Oasis stage on Saturday. Having played twice last year in Montreal, they are always be welcome to come and please their fans again.

9. Torro Torro

Torro Torro was a really nice surprise to see released in phase two because these electronic junkies can certainly throw a party. Torro Torro’s heavy synths and energetic electro make any set a non stop dance frenzy. The duo, originally from Toronto, have been dormant for the past year on most social outlets so it will be very interesting to see what they play in their live set.

8. Mr. Carmack

Mr. Carmack Edited

Mr. Carmack definitely knows how to make a crowd go crazy. What appears to be the simplest movements of suave can entirely disrupt a field of people. Mr. Carmack on the decks is truly a beautiful sight, as he makes it look too easy moving around with little effort. Yet, don’t be fooled by this artist’s style, with enough bass you’ll still be struck by his signature beat blasting rhythms. Having created a popular persona around his name, Mr. Carmack’s performance will definitely draw in a big crowd.

7. Andru

Dreamscape creator and native to Montreal, one serious act not to miss is upcoming musician Andru. Relatively low key and forever anonymous, this talented producer will turn heads with his own unique style. Andru performs first on Friday at the Superheroes Anonymous Stage, but will surely set the tone for the rest of the day with smoother and slower tracks fit for any weather.

6. Kill The Noise

One artist who I’m personally very excited for is Kill The Noise. After just playing late May at New City Gas, Kill The Noise is back to bring a rain of stabbing synths and gut clenching bass. After hearing several mixes and seeing him play live for online streaming, I can safely say Kill The Noise has skills on deck. His ability to mix by entwining popular songs together is what makes his performance one of the most anticipated.

5. Tim Mason

If you’re looking for good house music to vibe to, then Saturday’s opener Tim Mason is probably your best bet. This originally English musician has been releasing remixes for a few years and has just started working with Spinnin Records. Finding a mix between progressive and tech house, Tim Mason will certainly get people moving right away. You can find Tim Mason on Saturday at the Oasis stage.

4. Thomas Jack

Thomas Jack Edited

One of the biggest shocks in the lineup schedule was Thomas Jack commencing the festival off at Oasis stage on the first day. This Australian magician has been making uplifting summery tracks for only a short period of time, but has been a serious influence to many musicians in similar production. Although he plays earlier in the day at 3pm on Friday, Thomas Jack’s set is surely to be fit for good weather and vibrant people.

3. The Knocks

The Knocks Edited

Keeping the summer sensation strong, Thomas Jack is followed by The Knocks. This disco duo have been making a mass amount of music for years and the music they produce has changed along the way. Originally experimenting with lighter, feel good pop, they shifted towards the electronic side of the spectrum. Yet, the duo has never lost sight of their roots, as there is still a clear disco influence in their most recent work. This side is sure to come out during the sun at 4pm when The Knocks take the Oasis stage on Friday.

2. Araab Muzik

Araabmuzik edited

Constantly considered the quickest DJ on the MPC, Araabmuzik is a definitive show stopper. His placement on this list should be of no surprise, since he sets the bar for artists who are trying something different. Araabmuzik’s real talent does not come from production or even DJing, but from his skill with a live beat maker. He is the second last performer on Saturday at the Neon Stage so make sure you catch at least part of his set to see the man at work.

1. Adventure Club

Adventure Club

Montreal’s beloved superheroes have come back to their home city where they are not only headlining, but have their own entire stage with friends of the duo.

3LAU, The Chainsmokers, Botnek, and more will join Adventure Club at the Superheroes Anonymous Stage to create a perfect build of electro into dubstep. Since Leighton and Christian are native to Montreal, there is sure to be a massive and wild amount of people to come for this final show.

Who are you most excited to see play at Ilesoniq?
