The 8 Dishes To Order At Jatoba; Montreal’s Brand New Hot Spot Downtown
Asian cuisine with a twist
If you haven’t heard by now, the long-awaited restaurant Jatoba is officially open, and has been since the first week of January.
Whether it’s for a special celebration or a business meeting, this new addition to the city will meet all expectations and needs.
The kind of place that makes you feel at home with a warm yet professional service.
The restaurant is brought to you by Chef Olivier Vigneault (formerly from Park Restaurant), Manolo Costa (Queue de Cheval and Pois Penché), Nicolas Urli (Ha, Flyjin), Marco Benatar, (Flyjin), and Alexander Besnar & Patrick Hétu (A5 Management).
Leading the kitchen, Chef Olivier Vigneault (check him out on Instagram) will allow you to indulge in refined cooking and experience a delectable variety of Japanese and Chinese inspired dishes and tapas, where flavors and originality offer a unique culinary experience.
Whether it be watching the chef in action at the terrace bar or sitting inside by the fireplace, every minute spent at Jatoba will be one to remember.

Located at 1184 Place Phillips, where the old Phillips Lounge used to be, you can expect a chic decor that’s quite modern and artsy, but with a touch of vintage elements that makes it that much more inviting.
We gave you a quick overview of the fantastic concept that you must go experience for yourself and now here are the 8 dishes you have to try.
-
The jatoba salad
Served with an exotic homemade plum vinaigrette, this dish is intricate with all its components. Perfect as a side to accompany all the beautiful protein on the table.

-
Black cod jatoba style
An exquisite piece of fish cooked to perfection with vegetables, all drenched in a sweet miso sauce with a hint of sake.

-
Beef tataki
Our absolute favorite. The beef is so tender and the whole dish is an adventure for the palate. Peaches, quinoa, enokis mushrooms and japanese spices all come together to create this splendid plate.

-
Shrimp dumpling
Flavour explosion incoming. This classic but oh so loved dish of dumplings is complimented with a fragrant broth and sesame seeds, keeping it simple but delicious.

-
Yellowfin tuna sashimi
Asian influence at its best. The asian pears and the jalapeno intertwining with the crispy nori and the soy sauce will definitely make you come back for more.

-
Sashimi platter to share
For all the sashimi lovers out there. From salmon to tuna, shrimps, scallops and more, you’re in for a treat. The beautiful aroma of top quality fish mixed with pristine knife skills and presentation makes the whole plate mind-blowing.

-
King oyster mushrooms
For the vegetarians out there who still want to experience the Jatoba flavours. The mushrooms are served in a sweet miso gratin, which adds greatly to their taste. The dish is meant to be shared, but you could always keep it all to yourself.

-
Sweet salmon
Salmon has a signature taste of its own, and balancing it with a sweeter soy sauce and teriyaki gives it a nice depth in flavour, especially with basil on top.
